Matuwa Kurrara Kurrara Interpretive Signage Design

Matuwa Kurrara Kurrara, on Martu country is an Indigenous Protected Area spanning 6000 square kilometres on the southern edge of the Little Sandy Desert. The Martu people are the traditional owners and custodians of this land.

Publik spent a week on country with the Martu people and a team from Telstra’s Pay it Forward program, that gives team members a cultural engagement opportunity to work along side, connect and learn from traditional owners.

To recognise and celebrate the Martu people’s ownership of this land, Publik created entry statements bearing the name ‘Matuwa Kurrara Kurrara’. The design of the statements connects the words together and to the land, much like the Martu people’s connection to country.

Additional interpretive signage at Matuwa Kurrara Kurrara recognise the significance of the Martu people’s reclamation of their country, their history and how they care for country. The home of Martu elder, Marakuju, is commemorated with interpretation about his life and importance to the community.
